It’s World Hypnotism Day 2010!

Today is World Hypnotism Day. What’s that? Here’s an explanation from the World Hypnotism Day web site:

World Hypnotism Day, January 4th, was established to help educate the general public of the truth and benefits the timeless and natural process of hypnotism has to offer anyone.  Movies and books of fiction have warped the perception of hypnosis, which is why World Hypnotism Day is a necessity in order for more people to understand the truth and use this natural, expedient and effective process for personal change.

On World Hypnotism Day, and days before and after January 4th, hypnotism professionals around the world combine their efforts presenting free and low cost events in their area to promote hypnotism and help the general public become more aware of hypnosis and the benefits it offers any individual desiring personal change.

Northern Lights Hypnosis is hosting a free open house at our office in Amherst, NH today from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Stop by for free snacks and to enter our World Hypnotism Day prize drawing.

World Hypnotism Day OPEN HOUSE at NLH!

Saturday Update From NGH Convention

It turned out that Dan Vitchoff and I ended up having lunch together today to discuss a couple of things, including the hypnosis system he used to achieve such spectacular results with U.S. athletes in the 2008 Olympics. It was a very informative lunch.

Among the sessions I attended today were ones where I learned new techniques to help clients with communication, motivation, self esteem, personal success, education, and several other things that can be quickly and effectively helped through hypnosis.

Two of the sessions I attended dealt with working directly with doctors, dentists, and other medical practitioners as an adjunct to their treatment methods. There are many ways that a hypnotist can work with a traditional medical practitioner to help improve the overall outcome for their patients.

The two greatest contributors to the science of hypnosis in the 20th century were the late Milton Erickson and the late Dave Elman. Much has been written by and about Erickson, but very little is known about Dave Elman beyond what is written in his book “Hypnotherapy” and perhaps whatever truths may exist in the fanciful stories about Elman on the internet.

Today I seized what may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn much more about Dave Elman by attending a convention session with Elman’s son, Col. Larry Elman (USAF, ret.) and later having a 1-on-1 conversation with him. Larry Elman worked in his father’s hypnosis school, assisting with the teaching of hypnosis to doctors and dentists in the 1950s. He stripped away myths, added facts, and revealed previously unknown aspects of his father’s techniques.

The legendary “Dave Elman Induction” as well as the techniques Elman called “hypnoanalysis” are taught to all practitioners of the 5-PATH advanced hypnosis system. The information revealed by Larry Elman will help me use those techniques more effectively with you, the client.

Friday Update From NGH Convention

Scott Babb here at the National Guild of Hypnotists annual convention and educational conference. In addition to getting my annual NGH re-certification, I’m also learning lots of new things to help you make the changes you want and get a better life.

Today was the opening day of the conference. There are literally over 300 educational seminars during the course of the conference. In the sessions I attended today I learned about things like new studies with advanced medical equipment that show how hypnosis activates specific areas of the brain, how hypnosis can be used to help those who suffer from asthma (with live demonstrations, even!), and how hypnosis was used by the U.S. Olympic team last year to set new records and win gold medals.

I blocked off part of tomorrow’s lunchtime for a 1-on-1 conversation with the hypnotist who went to Beijing with the U.S. Olympic Shooting Team last year and helped their shooters bring home the gold. Results like those certainly warrant me having a quick lunch so I can learn more about how to help clients get the best possible results from sports improvement hypnosis.
